Resolutely committed to the fight against global warming, Vulcain Ingénierie joined Polar Pod Expedition Support Committee, led by the physician and explorer Jean-Louis Etienne, to explore the Southern Ocean that surrounds Antarctica, still unknown as the sea conditions in this storm ocean are difficult.
This unprecedented expedition will make it possible to collect data of major scientific and environmental interest, previously inaccessible:
- The CO2 absorption capacity of this ocean, with the cold waters of the Southern Ocean considered to be the main ocean carbon sink on the planet
- The study of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, an essential driver of the global ocean current and therefore of the climate machine because it brings together the three major oceans (Atlantic, Indian and Pacific)
- An acoustic inventory of marine fauna
These data will be transmitted to the international scientific community, in Open Data.
This sponsorship action complements our Group's initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint, in particular the launch of an Ideathon dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of our activities and projects carried out alongside our customers.
