Senior Steelwork Engineer – Nuclear

Vulcain Engineering is looking for a Senior Steelwork Engineer to support the delivery of high-profile, high-value nuclear projects — some of the most pioneering and complex infrastructure developments in the UK.

You’ll play a key role in leading technical development, guiding engineers, and ensuring design excellence across large-scale structural steelwork packages.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the main technical point of contact for steelwork engineering issues
• Review and oversee structural design deliverables to ensure quality and compliance
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers
• Represent the team at technical workshops and reviews
• Lead technical input at gate reviews and resolve design queries
• Coordinate with civil, building layout, and piping teams
• Capture and apply lessons learned from past projects
• Manage design changes in line with internal procedures and quality standards

• Extensive experience in structural steel design
• Degree qualified in structural, civil, or a related discipline
• Skilled in 3D modelling and structural analysis tools
• Familiarity with Eurocodes, particularly Eurocode 3
• Background in nuclear or similarly highly regulated industries
• Understanding of fastenings, anchorage, and reinforced/pre-stressed concrete
• Confident working within complex design and layout environments
• Strong grasp of QA procedures and engineering governance
