background

The ATLAS project focuses on the modernization of installations dedicated to the treatment of spent fuels, in one of the most important reprocessing sites in the world. This initiative is part of the industrial continuity of the French nuclear sector, which requires the maintenance of high standards in terms of safety, performance and regulatory compliance. In practice, it is a question of replacing and optimizing several units, from their design to their commissioning, while ensuring the traceability of interventions and the control of the risks inherent to a classified site.

The context is particularly demanding: the coordination of various technical disciplines (civil engineering, processes, control-command, radiation protection), the management of documentation under regulatory control and the rigorous supervision of subcontracted services are all challenges. In an environment where every detail counts, the successful progress of the project requires precise organization and solid expertise in security. At each stage, the challenge is to maintain business continuity while guaranteeing the safety of personnel, installations and the environment, essential conditions for the success of the mission.

Customer needs

Orano wanted a partnership capable of managing a complex project in a high-risk environment. The project involves scrupulous compliance with nuclear standards, the integration of several technical disciplines and rigorous documentary control. The main ambition was to modernize the industrial tool without disrupting ongoing operations, while respecting the safety standards imposed by the competent authorities. The partner therefore needed to have solid experience in managing nuclear projects and in managing multidisciplinary teams.

Specificity of the mission

On this complex project, the team intervenes at several levels: management of the project and its schedules, technical coordination to avoid interface conflicts, and exhaustive control of the documents produced. Security procedures require constant vigilance and smooth communication between all stakeholders. Each phase, from preliminary studies to commissioning, must be validated through strict regulatory processes. This rigorous approach ensures operational continuity, compliance with current standards and the maintenance of a high level of security.
