Storengy
MethyCentre, supported by Storengy in partnership with CEA and CNRS, is the first methanation demonstrator in France. This innovative project aims to combine green hydrogen and CO₂ in order to generate synthetic methane injected into the gas network. It thus contributes to the reduction of the carbon footprint and to the deployment of power-to-gas solutions, which are essential for the valorization and storage of renewable energies.
The objective is to prove the industrial feasibility of a process that was previously experimental, by validating its performance, efficiency and regulatory compliance. Vulcain Engineering intervenes at each stage to design, integrate and supervise methanation equipment, while taking into account research and innovation challenges. In a context where energy transition is a major challenge, MéthyCentre illustrates the ability to transform research into concrete applications. The lessons learned from this demonstrator will guide potential large-scale deployment, strengthening France's position as a key player in the decarbonization of the gas sector.
Storengy was looking for an engineering partner capable of integrating experimental technologies into an R&D environment while overseeing studies and installations. The objective: to optimize the performance of the methanation process and demonstrate its industrial feasibility. Beyond the technical challenges, it was also a question of coordinating multiple stakeholders, both public and private, and of complying with a demanding regulatory framework. Vulcain has therefore mobilized its expertise in gas processes and renewable energies to support this innovative project.
Design a demonstrator combining green hydrogen, CO₂ and gas injection systems.
Guarantee the performance and reliability of the process in a demanding experimental framework.
Coordinate public and private partners to ensure technical and regulatory coherence.
Vulcain Engineering provided global support, from general installation studies to the supervision of work on site. Our teams have defined the technical specifications of methanation systems and validated their performance in real conditions, while integrating regulatory and environmental constraints. This transversal approach allowed us to optimize the energy efficiency of the demonstrator and to guarantee a harmonious integration of infrastructures, thus offering a solid basis for the future deployment of methanation in France.
General installation studies and industrial integration of key equipment.
Precise sizing of systems and validation of methanation specifications.
Continuous supervision of the work for a compliant and efficient commissioning.
