The Gare du Nord, in the heart of the capital, is the subject of an ambitious redevelopment program aimed at increasing safety, accessibility and comfort for its millions of annual users. Ranked among the largest stations in Europe, it is a strategic railway hub where international lines, main lines, suburbs and metro coexist. The work undertaken must deal with a dense urban environment, strict heritage requirements and the need to maintain continuous operation. Specific architectural constraints are added to those of building protection, requiring site methods adapted to preserve historic architecture.
In this classified space, interventions cover various aspects: renovation of traffic, reorganization of passenger flows, modernization of technical installations and development of new commercial spaces. The challenge lies in coactivity: planning and coordinating civil engineering works, the integration of new equipment and the management of interfaces between the numerous stakeholders (project owner, subcontractors, local authorities, operators) while ensuring a high level of safety. This project crystallizes the complexity of modernizing a living and highly frequented heritage, where each step must be carried out with the greatest precision.
SNCF Gares & Connexions was looking for a partner to manage this monumental project, capable of guaranteeing the proper execution of the works in an iconic and very busy place. The constraints are multiple: respect the heritage preservation of the station, ensure the safety of passenger flows in an operating site and coordinate multidisciplinary teams. The objective is to respect an ambitious schedule and maintain the level of service to users, despite the extent of the work.
Renovate and modernise without interrupting daily rail activity.
integrate the architectural constraints linked to a classified and protected building.
Coordinate several construction sites and service providers in a densely frequented urban space.
The teams mobilized in project management must orchestrate all civil engineering and development works, while taking into account the requirements of a historic site in operation. The monitoring of schedules and the precise planning of interventions are crucial to guarantee the safety of users and the continuity of the service. Each stage requires rigorous coordination, whether it is night work, temporary power offs or temporary arrangements. Added to this is the preservation of heritage, which requires particular attention during structural changes.
Supervise an extensive project, with several phases and complex technical interfaces.
Manage documentation and ensure traceability at each stage of the process.
Maintain the fluidity of traffic and preserve safety in an operating site.
